yes, i....

yes, i know you are just doing your part in spreading the words of the prophet.
yes, i understand you are just fulfilling your obligation as a good muslim in reminding us all.
yes, i feel you when all you wanted to do is to ber-dakwah to others, so that they will not stray far from the straight path.
yes, i do support your mission in reminding us on the infidels' actions to destroy our religion.

but please, brothers and sisters, please.

stop spreading those stories on what people of other faith are doing in disgracing our religion.
stop forwarding those nasty rumours on what the people of other faith are planning to destroy our faith and religion.

and please, i beg you, please.

stop forwarding false hadiths; false Quranice verses that contain questionable meanings; chain-mail on bad luck if you do not spread the mail to others; and false prophecies; and not forgetting stories of "jihadist" killing people in the name of upholding the faith.

does this sounds familiar?:
Do'a malaikat Jibril menjelang Ramadhan " "Ya Allah tolong abaikan
puasa ummat Muhammad, apabila sebelum memasuki bulan Ramadhan dia
tidak melakukan hal-hal yang berikut:

* Tidak memohon maaf terlebih dahulu kepada kedua orang tuanya (jika
masih ada);
* Tidak berma'afan terlebih dahulu antara suami isteri;
* Tidak bermaafan terlebih dahulu dengan orang-orang sekitarnya.

Maka Rasulullah pun mengatakan Amiin sebanyak 3 kali. Dapatkah kita
bayangkan, yang berdo'a adalah Malaikat dan yang meng-amiinkan
adalah Rasullullah dan para sahabat, dan dilakukan pada hari Jumaat.
this is one example of messages forwarded to me, in early Ramadhan this year.

the thing is, it sounds like something is not right.

and when i asked the friend who forwarded the email to me, questioning his source, the reply that i got was,
"entah. aku dapat dari orang lain. aku forwardkan je. as a reminder to us all"
and i said to myself, "HAH?"

the funny thing is, as i received others "funny" reminders forwarded to me by my friends; when i questioned them, listed below are typical answers given:
  1. ha'ah la. semacam plak bunyi dia. tapi aku forward je. sebagai peringatan
  2. entah. aku forwardkan je. untuk kita beringat-ingat.
  3. betul laa..member aku yg anta ni bleh dipercayai. ikut jelaa.
  4. betul jugak. tapi kita buat la benda2 baik yg dia suruh. yang tak betul tu tinggalkan la
  5. hehe. aku tau. ade gak few others responded. aku nak tau je brape ramai yg betol2 baca
please excuse me for a while.

wth?

dude, tak kisah la the intended message tuh memang benda yang betul. tapi dah penyampaian tu tak betul, maka jadi tak betullah.

e.g.

Sabda Rasulullah SAW: "sebarkanlah ajaranku walaupun satu ayat"

the sentences highlighted in green = betullah tu. baguslah berzikir, bertasbih dan bertahmid setiap hari. and menjadi tanggungjawab kita untuk menyebarkan ajaran Rasulullah SAW.

yg merah tu yg problemnya. who are we to suka-suki je cakap those things will happen? ini dah macam surat berantai dah.

you see, most of us, nampak point2 baik dan bagus, terus jump to conclusion yang the whole reminder is good. vice versa, ceteris paribus. nampak points tak baik, terus assume the whole message is not good.

if nak forward to others pon, pleaseee lah. check dulu. verify dulu, betul or not. jgn pakai forward je.

instead of pahala, entah2 free2 je dapat dosa sebab menyebarkan fitnah dan penipuan.

p/s: the same thing goes to when you ada dgr gossip or rumours. especially to PET staffs. pantang dgr rumours gaji nak naik je, terus percaya. pastu bile nothing happened, salahkan HR.

*sigh*

bro, i totally agree with you. Our religion never blackmailed us into spreading the goodness of Islam. I hope this culture of forwarding finds its end, not because of the message, but because the footnote like the one you highlighted is not the way of Islam at all.

There are also some of my friends that forward emails without even thinking about the integrity of the message let alone the consequence of it. Some are spreading emails of hate of another race, which is also not OUR (Muslim, Malaysians) way. I always reminded my friends that the unity in Malaysia is so important and fragile, and by forwarding emails of discrimination this tiny balance would tip and we could face another May13. We have forgotten how simple things can cause so much suffering.

Bro, I hope more people would understand this.
