rage of washing machine

this is a hot issue.

from what has been circulated thru my UTP colleagues, it is known that the Residential College (RC) management is taking a drastic action. hostel's electricity and other utilities bill are high, and RC management managed to pinpoint the source of the rising utility bills. student's washing machine.

why washing machine? maybe it is the most-power-consuming electrical appliances. right after computers. my wild guess is that, eversince most houses are equipped with their own washing machines, the utilities bill skyrocketed to a limit where the RC management cannot give any excuses to UTP management.

therefore, they need to confiscate all washing machines available in UTP right now.
but then again, why washing machine? perhaps it is because washing machine is easy to be confiscated. the management cannot confiscate laptops or computers, as students need them for leisure and assignments. washing machine does not play an important role for students, as there are lots of options available for students to replace the washing machine. lazy enough to wash your own clothes with your own hands? then send the clothes to the nearest laundry services. else, vice versa ceteris paribus

the action taken by RC management to confiscate washing machines is being perceived by most students as an act of thievery. fundamentally, the washing machines were taken into "custody" without the owner's consent, any valid reasons or official notice at least, causing the students to come out with their own conclusions, and one-sided judgement.

on the other side, according to Residential College Rules and Regulations, do correct me if i'm wrong, there is stated that should there is any electrical appliances being brought inside hostel illegally, that is without any declarations or permissions from the RC management, the management has the authority to confiscate the appliances until further notice.

the questions that we need to ask ourselves
are, are we in the right side? if we are "ditindas", do we have enough proof to show that the allegations are baseless? that the actions taken by management is wrong?

rules and regulations are open to any interpretation. we might interpret it this way, but the management might think otherwise.

the best solution? negotiate. if it fails, re-negotiate. should the 2nd negotiation session fails, re-re-negotiate. if by the 3rd time nothing can be resolved, then send memorandum to UTP management. utilize fully the Student Representative and RCSU. students should demand for the Student Representative Council to fight on this issue. if the so-called MPPUTP does nothing, then we demand them to resign.

demonstration and sending letters to newspapers are stupid methods. those are methods being used by those fool enough not to realise that they have the power and ability to make changes. students are amongst the enlightened.

in the time this entry is being written, negotiations are still being done between RC management and UTPRCSU
