afternoon with Abuya: zakat and corporation
someone posed this question to the President during Q&A session during President Policy Address function.
Q: Why is the Company not paying zakat for all the revenue received throughout the year?
i was taken aback with the question, and later in the same week, a friend of mine IM-ed and asked, "is it true that the Company does not pay any zakat?". all i could tell her at that moment was based on President's answer, the Company does not pay any zakat. however, i am sure, i told her, that the people in Finance or Treasury is looking into that thing.
when i raised that question to Abuya the other day, he told me that, the Company does not have to pay any zakat.
1st reason: Corporation = A legal designation given to a company recognized as its own entity, independent of its directors and founders. Because everyone within a corporation is an employee, no single individual is liable for the company's debt of failure. and zakat is compulsory for all individuals. individual = people. therefore, since Company is not an individual, therefore there is no obligation for the company to pay zakat.
the catch is, normal company is owned by numbers of shareholders. and this group of people are the ones that has to pay their income zakat (zakat pendapatan). and the practice is, whenever the company is paying zakat, it is actually performing the syariah obligations on behalf of the shareholders. thus resulting, the dividends paid to all shareholders are already cleaned, and they have completed one of Rukun Islam.
the good analogy is like this.
when you do not pay zakat = hell is the place you will be.
when a company does not pay zakat = for sure that company is not going to hell. how could it?
however, company is owned by shareholders.
therefore -> company does not pay zakat = shareholders' wealth is unclean = balasan neraka di akhirat kelak for the shareholders.
get it?
wallahu'alam.
2nd reason: the Company is fully owned by the government = government is the shareholders. and government-owned bodies are exempted from paying zakat.
unlike other GLCs, the government is the only shareholders of the Company (100% ownership). in MAS (or any other companies where government only owns a majority number of shares) the government is the main shareholders. therefore, these GLCs have to pay zakat on behalf of other non-government shareholders.
however, for the subsidiaries (public listed or co-owned by other companies), they have the obligations to pay zakat for their non-government shareholders. (e.g JV, Gas, Dagangan, etc)

Case Study 1: Judging a book by its cover
The timeless and ageless argument that exists since mankind interacts with mankind.
You are not good.you are not a good person.you are a bad person.I am better than you.in fact,I am someone with good behaviour and virtue, and you are not.
How does one compares with other people around him?the base for this comparison is usually set against a couple of principles held strongly by this person, usually his or her sets of morality behaviour and perspective, with the other person's sets of behaviour and principles perceived by our naked eyes.together with this observation, assisted by our inner instincts,we expressly developed our own judgments.if my principles are same with that person's,then we are good.else,we belong in two different camps.
Altho we've been told again and again: never judge a book by its cover; in our subconcious mind,we always perform this judgmental experiment and process.lets be honest, shall we? But then, the question that is to be posed is why do we? My personal view is we do these things because believe it or not,we human have this tendency to be among those we think is in the same wavelength as ours. Seriously, this so-called same wavelength helps us interacting better with each other.
In the adventure of knowing ourselves, which inadvertently getting us on the enlightened path of understanding the mankind behaviour and rituals.
So ladies and gentlemen, today's assignment is to explain and tell us why we pre-judge people and does this pre-judge ritual poses a positive or negative impacts to us.
I'll see you next time.

Songs in My head
Colbie Caillat - Bubbly
V1: I've been awake for a while now
you've got me feelin like a child now
cause every time I see your bubbly face
I get the tinglies in a silly place
C: It starts in my toes
and I crinkle my nose
where ever it goes I always know
that you make me smile
please stay for a while now
just take your time
where ever you go
V2: The rain is fallin on my window pane
but we are hidin in a safer place
under covers stayin safe (*) and warm
you give me feelins that I adore
C: It starts in my toes
make me crinkle my nose
where ever it goes
i always know
that you make me smile
please stay for a while now
just take your time
where ever you go
B: What am I gonna say
when you make me feel this way
I just........mmmmmm
C: It starts in my toes
make me crinkle my nose
where ever it goes
i always know
that you make me smile
please stay for a while now
just take your time
where ever you go
V3: I've been asleep for a while now
You tucked me in just like a child now
Cause every time you hold me in your arms
I'm comfortable enough to feel your warmth
C: It starts in my soul
And I lose all control
When you kiss my nose
The feelin shows
Cause you make me smile
Baby just take your time now
Holdin me tight
Where ever, where ever, where ever you go
Where ever, where ever, where ever you go
Where ever you go, I'll always know
Cause you make me smile here, just for a while

been hooked to this song lately. dunno why. perhaps because of the soothing voice of Colbie. or perhaps this song is the mushy-wushy feeling kinda song. not too lovey dovey or jiwang-jiwang. hahaha
Michael Buble - L.O.V.E
L is for the way you look at me
O is for the only one I see
V is very, very extraordinary
E is even more than anyone that you adore
And love is all that I can give to you
Love is more than just a game for two
Two in love can make it
Take my heart but please don't break it
Love was made for me and you
L is for the way you look at me
O is for the only one I see
V is very, very extraordinary
E is even more than anyone that you adore
And love is all that I can give to you
Love, love, love is more than just a game for two
Two in love can make it
Take my heart but please don't break it
'Cause love was made for me and you
I said love was made for me and you
You know that love was made for me and you
L is for the way you look at me
O is for the only one I see
V is very, very extraordinary
E is even more than anyone that you adore
And love is all that I can give to you
Love is more than just a game for two

next in the list is L.O.V.E by Michael Buble. i must say, it's the music that caught my attention. and yeah, Buble's voice is a pull factor as well. the funny thing is, i always imagine myself doing a Broadway-dance routine with this song. complete with the hat and umbrella!
went to Dewa 19 concert yesterday. was enjoying myself throughout the night.. really! Ili and Najwa, in case you're reading this, i enjoyed the show. period. :) well, i might not show it that night. but i guess that was just me. enjoying the music with different approach. hehe
well, last night, while others were singing along with Once (seriously, his voice is awesome!) and Dhani (another genius musician), and yeah, expressing themselves throughout the night, there i was, at the back and all alone (literally), sticking like sore thumbs with serious facial expressions. no singing along, no exaggerative actions (kecuali when they played Arjuna. hahaha. was really looking forward for that song). some hand and body movements.
my sight was fixed on the stage. the drummer, the bassist, the guitarist, Dhani and Once.
Once - again, his voice is awesome! he hit the high notes perfectly. and yeah, he DID not screamed in high pitch, unlike most rockers or performers.
Dani - this fella is a well-rounded musician. he was a guitarist, vocalist, keyboardist, and deejay for the band.
the drummer - hands down, this fella gave his all last night! if not because i saw him plying his trade awesomely then, i would have thot all the percussion sounds were from the sound mixer.
bassist and guitarists - they were very cool that night. i mean, that is how all guitarist and bassist should be kan? hahahahaha...
and the idea of having sheila majid (man, she still HAS it!) and rabbani was good. a different approach and style. i like it. u get a Jazz diva on stage with Dewa 19, and the result was fantastic. u add Rabbani to co-perform laskar cinta with Dewa 19, it brings a refreshing perspective on the song.
but to add Mulan to the show? am sorry to say, but she is not that good yet. yes, her dress last nite was awesome (come on, her legs.. hehehe). but still, her voice can be annoying at times. hahaha
last night should be a perfect night.
if only they started early.
admission was at 8pm. and so i thot that the show will begin earliest by 8.30pm and latest by 8.45pm.
but noooo...
Dewa 19 walked to the main stage around 9.26pm. and no reason whatsoever was given.
and yeah.
post concert, when to a Malay stall at Kota Damansara since i was craving for some Malay dish stall-cooked.
malas nak bertekak or whatever, paid the waiter, pastu chow.
makan mcD lagi bagus.
bodoh!
hahahahaha

I: bang, bagi nasi putih, telur bungkus. ngan kopi susu.
waiter bodoh: kopi tu pun sekali?
(it was 1.15am, i was tired and starving. couldn't care less to what he said. so i just nodded to whatever he said)
few minutes later..
that bl00dy waiter handed to me 3 packs of polystyrenes filled with nasi putih, and kopi susu bungkus 3.

Whitewater rafting - pictures galore

these pictures were taken minutes before we boarded our rafts, and began one of the most exhilarating whitewater rafting routes. i mean, this rafting expedition is my FIRST one for Level 3 river. previous rafting experiences were for Level 1 (very relaxing.. no need to paddle hehe), and Level 2 (and during the 2nd time of that same route, the whole boat capsized! but it was really good!)
earlier on, the guide specifically instructed us to "find someone you do not know as your raft partner". after some soul searching..err..err..ok,have to rephrase that..after looking around, decided to stick around with Shaliza (since this is her first time), Salmi (from PMU), Ili (from eXploration Carigali), and Aidi (i guess he's from PMU as well). OK, i must admit. that Ili is kinda hot, but she's too thin. hahaha. not my taste kot? plus her boyfriend was in another raft. had to be veerryy careful hohoho.
we nearly capsized at one of the most challenging whitewater sections. Jo, Fizah and Akmals' raft was the only one that capsized at that section. nevertheless, i am very sure those experience will always be remembered and treasured by them. i mean, who can ever forget their capsized-and-nearly-drowned experience? not me. altho i can't remember much, except there were loads of water. hahah.. naa..just kidding. of course i remember :)
for the record, Salmi went overboard twice (the 2nd time she fell into the river, none of us panicked. altho we were reaching a whitewater section that time). Ili went overboard once (together with Salmi).
the best part was when we reached the end point. there we were, at a small stream (anak sungai), and it was such a good spot to bermandi-manda. right across it was a log, used as small bridge to cross the stream, and conveniently, right underneath it, dasarnya dalam. maka sesuai sekali untuk acara lompat dari jambatan. malangnya, saya bukanlah seorang yang mahir dalam melakukan lompatan terjun tiruk, ataupun balik kuang (somersault) . but who cares.
the funny thing was, cuma 3 of us je yang very beria-ia mandi sungai. hahahaha. Aiman a.k.a Wong, Mohd Osama and I. and before we decided to end the foolishness and dry ourselves at the banks, Ili came by and did somersault jump with Wong.
i love whitewater rafting.
as Aizan and I said to ourselves when the raft capsized,
Bring it ON!!!!

futsal with 6+2 people
4 lelaki + 4 perempuan = futsal 1 jam.
penat gila.. but really worth it lah. burnt loads of calories (altho lepas tu gi makan2 tak hingat hahahaha)
nway, bought meself a new pair of futsal shoes. what happened to the old one? well,
earlier this morning, was holding the shoes and the bag, when i was about to open the car's door. maka saya pun letaklah kasut di atas kereta, bukak pintu, start enjin kereta, dan terus menekan minyak dan memulakan perjalanan.
sampai jalan besar, tiba2, while i was looking at the side mirror, nampak macam familiar je benda yg tgh begolek2 atas jalan...
turned around to check my shoes... and walla! it was not there!
farewell, dear Puma Shoes! your jasa dan pengorbanan will always be remembered.
bought a new Puma futsal shoes, and Gloves as well.

Monday Night Raw 15th Year Anniversary
the show rocks!
stone cold steve austin. RVD, mankind, evolution, rated-RKO, lita, trish stratus, godfather, and yeah..ric flair and DX. and a couple of old-timers like dustin rhodes and hulk hogan. eric bischoff too.
altho i kinda miss The Great One, Brahma Bull, The People Champs.. The Rock! too bad he is now too busy with his filming schedule and stuffs.
nevertheless, current WWE superstars, RAW especially, is in strong condition. look at RAW itself. we have Y2J, Randy Orton, Umaga, Jeff Hardy, Ric Flair, Mickie James, Melina, HHH, Santino Marella, Maria (yummy), etc etc.
i'm rooting for Y2J to win this Sunday at ArmAgeddon.
well, ever since Randy Orton became the champion, there's not much promo around him, unlike John Cena. i mean, Cena can interact with the audiences and keep on talking for 10 minutes and mite be more thatn that. but Orton? he has less interaction.
here's for Y2J Chris Jericho to win the Championship this Sunday!!
jericho-holic!
