phone story

i am nearing 1 year anniversary with my Blackberry Bold 9700.
and being typical me, i am already planning to change my handphone.
however, i am a bit reluctant to let go of my BB due to:

  • i am very much satisfied with my BB's performance (altho am tad disappointed upon knowing that Bold 9700 will not support OS6)
  • most of my friends already using BBM as means of communication
  • perfect QWERTY keyboard
however, i am missing the touchscreen functionality. at first, i planned to get myself an iPad, as the 3rd tablet. but after some time, the novelty of owning that gadget lost on me. i thought i could be more productive on it. here are some ways i imagined how i'll be using the iPad
  • checking and responding to emails with a dedicated email client, something that my BB cant do. imagine archiving my work email to GMail, and to retrieve it via GMail IMAP at iMail client
  • increase productivity, as i'll be able to view documents on the go and in class too. however, iPad is only for consumption, not creation. at this point of time, i'm more on creating than consuming the data
  • eBook reading while travelling in plane, ERL, buses, etc. owh, i am soo gonna miss this.
so, i may ended up having a BB with and iPod touch. but then again, i might as well go for iPad if i want to opt for iPod touch.

so,

is there any BBM emulator that can connect Android phone to BBM?

The Smartphone War

B.A.I

current generation is divided.
if the Baby Boomers were divided on should we stay under the British rule, or should we pursue the path of independence and self-govern; and the Gen-X-ers are divided on which political parties best served their interests be it for the people or personal interest; the Gen-Y-ers are divided too.

in the times of technological advancements, where people are easily connecting and communicating with each other; what could possibly create a division among the Gen-Y-ers?
the very thing that unites us, is dividing us. it's the technology.

already we see groupies of Windows users, the cool and hip Mac users, and the "tegar" tech-geek using multiple versions of Linux OS. now emerges, the difference of smartphones.

most of the smartphone users, who have been affected by the cool factor of Apple, are embracing the iPhone team. surprisingly, some of them are those fond of the meek Windows Mobile OS. most of iPhone users are attracted to iPhone due to several factors. some of them are:-
- uber coolness of being seen with one
- easy to use. as Apple engineers really produced the best GUI and Human Computer Interaction for the smartphone.
- not much hassle. you only choose how big the data storage you want, and maybe the colour. that's all.
- there are lots of apps that are easily to retrieve/purchase/download, and you dont need to be a tech geek to know how to install it.
- wonderful screen display and icon. yeah, it's a repetition of point 2.
- not much button on it. simple.

surprisingly, there is this movement in town, currently gaining rapid support from the Gen-Y-ers. for the uninitiated, this movement have been in the field for some time, but only now they are gaining popularity among Malaysian Gen-Y population.
some interesting facts, Nokia was (and is) the best selling phones in late 90s because it is easy for users to send short message text, or fondly known as texting. and for some, texting via virtual/on-screen keyboard is not as fun as it should be. hence, Blackberry who has always been known for its superb qwerty keyboard begin their march.
so why the sudden popularity? here's why.
- physical keyboard. the main selling point for the cult of Blackberry.
- the professional look. unlike iPhone, if you're seen with a Blackberry, you are seen as a corporate figure. Very the executive
- email experience. Blackberry has the best email experience. you can retrieve and respond to your email whole day long, yet your Blackberry will not run out of battery juice like other phones.
- as mention above, the battery. Blackberry is a low-consumption device.
- most importantly, the Blackberry Messenger. it's like normal Instant Messenger, but only for Blackberry users. and it's encrypted, for goodness sake! how cool is that? you get to gossip all day long in a secured manner!

we also have this new boy in town, professing to be the next IN thing in smartphone teams. the green Android.
who are the users? well, they are the ones who would like to have the iPhone experience, but they hate of being told what to do and what they cannot do. what they can and what they cannot have. all in all, they are looking for the freedom in their smartphone experiences. these people are not your typical users. they know their thangs about smartphones and gadgets, and they are very adventerous. what attracts them to Android then?
- the freedom to choose the hardware, the apps, the way they interact with their belongings
- those who once called iPhone as suck-ass, but yet attracted to it, but decided not to join the iPhone team as it may hurt their pride and ego
- would like to be amongst the pioneers, as Android OS is the new kid in town.
-  looking for the best alternative for iPhone
- they are the proponent of the open-ness in technology
- Android phone have access to latest hardwares and configurations

to summarize:-
iPhone - simplicity
Blackberry - BlackBerry Messenger
Android - adventureous

WinMo and Symbian?
bah, humbug!

reflection

so, lately we've been receiving viral emails that McD is not Halal, hence we cannot consume it.

alright, the certificates of halal is issued so that us Muslims in Malaysia can safely be assured that the food to be consumed is Halalun Toyyiba.

from the story of McD halal certificates being pulled by JAKIM (which JAKIM has responded via announcement at their website that McD foods are halal) to the fatwa issued by Yusof Al-Qardhawi (which mentioned that it is a jihad in avoiding and boycotting all products that goes to funding of Israel).

i know at least one reader (if there is any lah) will go against me, but here are my thought on this.

so long as McD is employing Muslims, then i will at least buy their products. i feel obliged to ensure that my fellow brothers and sisters are getting paid, and have steady source of income
until there is a replacement or substitute to what McD offers, then i'll still patronising their outlets
so long as the food is halal, then i have no problem with it.

on the issue that we should stop supporting corporations that support Israel, have we reflect back at ourself?

have we find the real reason on why they are so powerful?

because as much as they are in the dog-eat-dog world, they are united by a purpose.

for the jews, at least they have the Zionist agenda in mind. and they work together towards it.

us, Muslims in the world?

we can even hardly agree on Palestine issue(s)!

the parties to be held responsible, and for us to vent our angers are not the Israeli, the Jews or the Christians.

it's us. it's the Islamic countries. we are the ones ignoring the plights of our brothers and sisters.

and as i mentioned in my earlier entries, the Palestinian also.

i mean, i would be more than glad to sadaqah my belongings to them.

but will i get the assurance that those money, will not be used in buying rockets, weapons and bullets?

entahlah.

renung-renungkan, dan selamat beramal.

p/s: berapa ramai guna iPhone, Nokia, Sony Ericcson? guna CSL laaahh kalau betul2 nak boikot barang Israel.

the big clock tower at mekah

is it really necessary to spend all those moolah, only to build the biggest and baddest clock tower,

and of all places, at Makkatul Mukarramah?

people flock into Makkah because we want to be closer to God, as we are in the Tanah Haram, in the holiest place in Islam. the place where Hajar did the first Sa'ie between Safa and Marwah.
the place that Prophet Muhammad S.A.W liberated from the musyrikin by destroying the statues of false idols in the vicinity of Masjidil Haram.

when the money can be used to liberate the 3rd holiest place, Masjidil-Aqsa from the Zionist...
what a waste...

takde idea

aku xde idea nak tulis pasal apa weh.
memula nak buat entry bashing on Apple iPhone 4, tapi takpe la..malas
then ingat nak write about Android Froyo 2.2. tu pun malas jugak.
belum lagi about current development in the Company.

anyway, let us discuss about how to write a good resume. shall we?

purpose of resume or CV, is to assist recruiters to identify potential candidates. not for candidates to identify where they want to work.

to be continued...

share you recipes here!

peeps, i am currently hooked to AFC, especially the Licence to Grill. as a BBQ enthusiast, i feel compelled to have the perfect BBQ, and to outdo Robert Rainford (tu kan nama dia?) by creating a perfect grilled dish with a grill burnt by charcoals, not by gas.

anyway, i am also prepping myself with cooking techniques.
so please feel free to share with me your recipes for superb dishes! (link pun boleh laa)

Movie Review: Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief

ok, one thing for sure, Percy Jackson a.k.a PJ 1st adventure will never win any Oscar. Unless they have a new category for Old-Mythologies-With-A-New-Perspective movies.

the Greek mythologies never ceases to amaze me. they are a product of hundreds of years of oral-story telling passed down generation to generation, and the main story has multiple spin-offs. Unlike our local folk-lore, they even have proper background stories for each character.
(although come to think of it, based on Hikayat Melayu or something, we are descendants of great Greek emperor.. if we are talking about the same Iskandar Agung lah)

ok, i'm digressing.

my point is, if you want to see US twist of this Greek myths, in other words this series practically stripped Greece of its Gods!, then watch this.

as for me, i find this movie interesting. although there were some plot holes, and not strong acting, but by comparing this with 1st Harry Potter, i find this even more enjoyable.

conclusion: this movie kinda made me feel "i should read the books!", since there are lots of things unexplained. but for those who want to just have fun and enjoy an innocent movie, go and get yourself a good seat(s).

happy valentine's day

ok, sedikit update dari meja pengarang.

(kita buat style Dr M lah, bullet point..baru nampak intelek sikit)
  1. dear sister is getting married this April. and yesterday we just officially declared her (and her fiancee) house is now open to the public. had a small do'a selamat and yasin recital, and big portion of food. us providing the BBQ chicken and sausage and salsa sauce; whilst the fiancee side with masakan kampung i.e udang sambal petai, ulam-ulaman, gulai nangka, kerabu mangga, ikan masin goreng, dll. oh ya, the akad nikah is planned to be held on 23rd april, while the walimah will be on 24th april. the 1st one for nazlan clan.
  2. and maybe come october, the 2nd one. as another sister is also planning to get married. but details yet to confirmed. alang2 tu, 2 marriages terus! the parents cant wait to have cucu :)
  3. dat said, when i asked my sister, "nak abgmil ada ke time ur nikah and walimah nanti?". and the question was answered with a simple statement, "gila ke abgmil takda?"
  4. it's a wonderful and quiet valentine's day for me this year. no V-Day msg for me.
  5. after a month of tak-balik KL, i spent my one week in KL as a devout anti-social person. spent most of my time in my room; surfing Net, downloading torrents, and texting people(s). played badminton once, and met the gfs once also. oh ya, i slept a lot. took a day off just to sleep. and when i woke up, i was bored, so i decided to continue sleeping. yes, i'm the male version of sleeping beauty. even she called me Raja Tidur.
  6. watched Percy Jackson alone, and upon exiting the cinema hall, met Anaz Dean. and she was surprised that i went to the movie ALONE! she said, "bukan u banyak kawan ke?".. yeap, i hv tonnes of friend. but semua busy. nak buat macam mana. baik duduk diam2 kat KK.
  7. spent the whole week thinking of getting myself a MacBook (no thanks to Jai!). been getting loads of hints and signs why i should get one i.e Farih is buying one, saw An Independent Guide to the Mac magazine, news on Apple Store temporarily close, etc etc... but as much as i'd love to quote Paulo Coelho "when you want something so bad, the whole universe will conspire to make it happen", a big chunk of reality bite me. i'm still owing CIMB bank RM3k, for my credit card bill. settle the debt first ok.
  8. so, while lepaking with Lan, Syeena and Nodi on V-Day eve, told them of the news. and lan sungguh tak puas hati hahahaha
  9. i want to buy a house, not in KL, but in KK. yes people, i'm planning to settle down here in KK. best woo.
  10. after a week of anti-socialising in KL (balik pun macam tak balik je. tak lepak dgn sesapa pun. tapi spent loads of time with family! yeay!), i'm bored of KL. ye, KL bosan! hehehehe
  11. Owh, attended a workshop last week, and am so inspired with it. watch out peeps! a new definition if HR is coming through.
  12. shoot. am suppose to be sleeping right now. esok nak jalan2 cuti2 Malaysia kat Sabah ni :) with local tour guide hehehe

mutiara kata

(sebenarnya sebab malas nak tulis panjang2)

falling in love is when you love someone for completing you, and for bringing out the best in you.
falling in lust is when you want someone to be with you because you want to.

the perfect person, is the one who made you perfect just by being themselves.

how to choose a netbook - geek guide made simple

Nod, to assist you.

1st thing, it’s a good idea indeed to do that. In fact, I plugged in my netbook to my tv to enjoy downloaded movies. Feel gila. Make sure you plugged in the audio jack as well lah.

2nd thing, speed. Most netbook come with standard processor speed. It can open multiple apps, but expect some hang time if u open up lots of application and leave it running at the background.

3rd thing, space. Hard disk space. Netbooks come in 2 varieties 1) normal hard disk usually in variations of 80/100/120 GB. 2) Solid-State-Drive (SSD) comes in variations of 8/16/24/32 GB. While normal HardDisk can have huge volume of data, SSD is more durable. Example, if jatuh kea pa ke, SSD takkan rosak dengan mudah, unlike normal Hard Disk. Reason why? Sebab SSD uses same technology as Thumbdrive. But remember, SSD netbook sangat mahal.

4th thing, cost. Don’t be fooled with “oh-this-is-cheap-and-from-brand-X-so-this-must-be-good”. Sometimes it’s cheap because they have nothing inside it i.e no Windows OS, no wi-fi. However, if you’re paying for more than RM1800, with its weight nearly 2 kg++, then you’ve been fooled too.

Best netbook will be of light, weight around 1 kg – 1.5 kg; must have wi-fi and Bluetooth; multiple USB ports (2 is not enough); built-in webcam; good ergonomics (meaning u have to test the mouse pad and keyboard first!); and also good display and sound (meaning it wont glare. Don’t be fooled with the Dolby Speaker, NVIDIA Graphic card and what not. At the end of the day, you’ll use it to do some spreadsheet, listen to music and watch movies with the earphone plugged into the audio port). Price range should be of RM 1300 – RM1800.

So far I’m quite happy with my BetNet, AcerOne Aspire netbook. Asus eePC is good as well. HP Mini pun nice. But its awkward mouse pad turned me off.

At the end of the day, if you have found various netbooks with the same price and specs (which they will be), always choose based on these criteria (the most important at the bottom)

· Battery life time (it wont be fun to be constantly charging your netbook’s battery)

· Warranty coverage (so you know how long you can perform crash test to your netbook)

· How it looks like (hey, who would want to be seen with hideous netbook? Even if it powered with super-fast processor?)

Hope this geek guide helps a lot.

persiapan perkahwinan

It's 2010 already. And as mentioned in earlier entry, this post will touch on persiapan perkahwinan.
Oh ya, btw, aku lmbt lagi. Still looking for the one.
But that doesn't mean that I can't talk about this kan? Anyway, mite be helpful la kot since my younger sister is planning to tie the knot this coming april.

So, how do I envision my wedding will be? Two words: simple and fun.
Simple as if I'm gonna do it at home (I kinda miss the gotong royong environment), and fun because I'm gonna ask my cousins and friends to be the helpers :p
It's gonna be a tiring yet wonderful experiences for all hehehe I can assure that.

Before I even consider to get married, both me and my partner is to fulfil this requirements:
- owns a house (preferably under her name. I strongly believe the house should be under the wife's name, but of course it's the husband that should bear the cost)
- a car (this should be under my name)
- blessings from both sides, inclusive of extended family too (u do not want to have relatives who kinda opposed the marriage. Imagine how the situation would be during har raya gatherings)
- enough savings (preferably rm10k each)
- credit card debt cleared
- we've been camping at remote areas together (so as to know our true colours when we're out of our comfort zone)

and mentioned earlier, the walimah (at least at my side) should be simple and fun, yet stays true to the customs.

How to know she's the one? For me, it's when my heart says so, and she also shows it clearly. I've had enough of receiving hints, only to know it's more for attention than care and love.

Maybe 2010 is the year?

P/s: congrats to all my friends yg dah bertunang and kawin, also those yg menerima zuriat :)

3 years

KL reminds me of loneliness.
it reminds me of how lonely i am.
seriously. take a walk at KLCC, the park, or anywhere, and you'll see couples or groups walking together. unlike me, who prefers to be all by myself.
and suddenly i felt like i'm a sore loser.

and while i was driving and "melayan" this feeling, i realised that i'm already in my 3rd years with the Company. and in a couple of months, will also mark another milestone for me.

it has been 3 years, and i'm still single.

emcee bidan terjun

"good job. you guys are good"

all we can do was smile as a gesture to the compliments. we were too tired, and fatigue got the best of us. blame it on the lack of sleep, and disturbance on our sleep pattern.

we were told that the dry-run will be held at 1.oo am, as the ballroom is being used by a wedding function the night before. and when came 0100 hours, we were informed that the banquet told us that the ballroom will ready by 0300 hours.

so we continued our sleep, only to wake up sharp at 3.00 am (thanks to Menaka), with the hope that we will be able to do the dry run as scheduled. much to our dismay, the ballroom was still yet to be ready for the event! the floor was still messy, the backdrop was nowhere to be seen, and the audio was yet to be in place (yes, there are lots of grammar errors here. lantak laa).

we waited until 4 am, and since we've wasted an hour waiting for nothing, both of us decided to return back to our rooms, and came back to the hall by 5.30 am. hoping to be able to conduct at least a dry run for the launching gimmick.

we waited then, and only by 7am, the audio people came and setting up everything, and by that time we had to rush to return back to our rooms, refreshed ourself via shower, and got ready for the event. we only managed to run through the launching gimmick with the team (no dry run tho!).

so, yeah. when one of the speakers mentioned to the crowd, how the emcees are to be congratulated for the job well done, although we were hit by the lack of sleep, we really appreciate it. we feel that we deserve it.

it's not the organising committee members, the chairman, the protocol, the floor manager; but us the bidan-terjun emcees who insisted on having the dry run. yes, other team members also were staying up throughout the morning, waiting for the hall to be cleaned and arranged by the banquet team for the event. but the credit all goes to us. muahahhahaha

sekian luahan hati seorang emcee bidan terjun. nasib all internal VIPs cakap great job to both of us. we can see that our name sure naik punya the next time the company needs emcee. muahahahaha

hello Santa

Dear Santa,

why have you not commenting my blog entry? is it because you're mad that you can no longer receive mails from kids? fret not Santa, for the decision has been reversed. you may ask your lawyers to rest now. want to know more? click here!

since i've shared this info with you, you better comment at my entry, or better, buy me those things that i want to.

else,

i'll come over to your house, and bring along with me officers from Wildlife Department to rescue those reindeer. i am pretty much sure that you do not posses any license to keep them as pet, and thus i wonder what will they react once knowing that you used those reindeers as slave?

so, you have 2 options.
option 1: get me those things i wanted
option 2: failure to do so, i'll come over to your place. well, they might take your reindeers away. but me? i'll bring along my lawyers to sue you for failure to give me what i want, and also to sue you on copyrights infringement, even your lawyers wont be able to defend you.

i know your address.
and for the betterment of the kids around the world, i am going to share your address with the them all.

Xmas wish list

dear Santa,

i've done an internet search, and i found that there is no reference to you mentioned anywhere in Christian's holy scriptures. Which this brings to the fact that you are actually a Caucasians icon, not a religion icon. Hence, i am writing to you in the spirit of 1Malaysia and brotherhood of global peace and Mutual Understanding of Religions, and asking you to fulfill my this year's Xmas wish.

rest assured, that i've been a good boy (those who said i've been bad, watch out punks, Coz i;m gonna slice your throat later tonight).

so, this is my 2009 Xmas wishlist
  1. full set of Rockband musical instruments for Wii
  2. Wii-Fit boards and games
  3. Motion-Plus for my Wii
  4. hit titles of Wii videogames
  5. ps3
will you give me these?

Wednesday and Thursday

Wednesday ended with one of my colleague, shared with us a farewell note from his friend who accepted the CTO. together with the email, he added his own remark, "Energy Receive, Energy Return, Inspiring People Everywhere.. sigh".
so when I replied, "awat Tun lagu tu?"
another person responded with "....lepas ni sure jadi issue plak cuti panjang untuk kahwin"

Thursday started with me, responding to Wednesday's email, by trying to rally their spirit and motivate them for this. among the points i mentioned to them are:
  • let this be a reminder to us, that someday when we are at the managerial level, let us not be trapped in this system, and do the same thing
  • let this remind us, that for us to go through this, we need to assist each other, regardless whether it's in our KPI or not.
  • also, for our bosses to be able to defend us, we need to meet our KPIs as well as go beyond the KPIs.
then someone replied,
"by going beyond KPIs, then people will lower the KPI expectation".

i replied,
"going beyond KPI is not lowering the expectation. going beyond KPI is after meeting your target, you did something that add value to your work.

a simple analogy:
race car driver.
main target (KPI): to complete the race within top ten place. this will guarantee the team point(s) for the Constructor Points.
side target (beyond KPI):
  1. to show to the audiences his driving skill. this will awe the audiences, thus increasing his fan base
  2. to ensure the cameramen are always focusing on his car. this would increase the visibility of the sponsors whose stickers were all over the car. ultimately, seeing high visibility in the media, the companies will continue sponsoring the team.
  3. again, to show his skill in the circuit. this will increase his visibility to other teams, and increase his opportunity to become the main driver for another racing team.

what say you?

our Netizens yang suruh orang lain Open Minded tapi dia sendiri cakap tak serupa bikin

well, before i'm off to bed (now that i believe she is already asleep), this would be the last entry for the day.

i guess i can declare it (as far as i'm concerned) that we Malaysians, we like to talk cock about our government and society.
typical case, when some hot and juicy stuffs being posted in RPK's main website, you can see or read zealots pouring in their thoughts and views on the mishaps, corruptions and the worsening situations happening in Malaysia.

and most time than not, the comments are full of negative remarks, saying this shit happens as long as BN/UMNO is still in power and shits like that. and how PR will never allow this and in fact they will clean up this pile of elephant dungs, in the names of Tidak Menyalahgunakan Wang Rakyat.

you can hardly find comments given by those people who really knew about the situation. who really gave ideas and suggestions on how we could tackle the problems and ensuring it will never resurface again.

2 reasons why i have paultan.org as one my links here in my blog. 1) coz i want to keep up-to-date with latest development in motoring world, 2) for the antics from the readers everytime Proton was mentioned in the article.

they can never find love with Proton. say, out of 150 comments, i would assume about 100 comments are bashing Proton, without any constructive suggestions.

we also bash Najib's idea of 1Malaysia, but have we ever at least provide constructive ideas to the vision?
but when suddenly Anwar came up with this idea, the whole netizens support the idea, to the extent proclaiming that it is much better than current thing.

even when the idea has never been tested before.

and since i need some amusement, let's imagine that this blog a very popular and well-visited by our Netizens.

Oil Company profits not as good as in Q1 2008

due to volatile market conditions, as well as political instability in parts of the world, the demand for crude oil sank lowest in 5 years time causing the price to drop about 56% from last month's. However, the production costs are still high due to increase risks to explore for new wells.

comment(s):-

@Eh? - korang, mana la PETRONAS ada duit cukup untuk subsidi petrol kita semua.

shooh shoooh go away

sometimes you just have this feeling of that you are nobody.
if somehow you are lost in the crowd, no one is looking for you.

the best parts are,
when you feel like extroverting and such, you feel like no one is there to acknowledge your very existence.
and when you feel like "hey, i guess it's time for me to get back in my cave, since nobody cares about me", suddenly people are giving their attention to you.

i dislike it when two forces, totally opposites of each other, exist when i know that both forces are the ones that i longed to be.

ok, shooh shooh go away.
i am so want to get inside this cave of mine
