my first job dilemma

i hate doing things half-way, not till i gave up on it tho.
for those who's been left out of the loop, last friday, PETRONAS HR people called me and told me that there is an offer for me there.
what i did not know was how limited the time given was.
i had to undergone medical check-up that would take up to three working days for the results, days full of dilemma and weighing pros and cons, and also to juggle between preparing all the documents while maintaining my presence in the office. or in front of my Operation Manager.

*sigh*

some would say that i am lucky, but forgive me for not living up to your expectation. i am in a state of mind where i don't feel like boarding a different ship in the middle of the sea. it has been only three weeks of me being a staff of UOB, and to be honest i've started to fall in love with the challenges. and my colleagues too. they are very supportive, and that adds to the ever-piling emotion mountain of mine.

for the past few months, i practically counting the days on when will PETRONAS call me and say ,"hey, we have job for you!". and when i was employed by UOB, i thought that the earliest PETRONAS will offer me job there is on november - december. and basically i've psyched myself on facing the challenges of working in a Chinese-working-environment.

nevertheless, i am grateful for the opportunity to be part of PETRONAS workforce.
and i am looking forward to the challenges they will give to me.

bring it on!!

on eve of ramadhan

salam ramadhan, everyone!
may this ramadhan changes us to a much better person than today. perform your ibadah as ikhlas as possible, and may ALLAH always be with you.

“Sahaja aku berpuasa keseluruhan bulan Ramadhan kerana Allah Ta”ala”

Lafaz Niat Puasa.
“Sahaja aku berpuasa esok hari menunaikan Fardhu Ramadhan tahun ini kerana Alalh Ta’ala

*fav song for ramadhan: harapan ramadhan by manbai and raihan.

the call of duty

once, my UTP colleagues enjoyed playing this FPS game called "Medal of Honor: Allied Assault" or famously known as MoHAA. everything started from a simple multiplayer match of two players playing Soldier of Fortune II, to a full-blown match with the whole block participated. we evolved from single game, to a more complex team death-match. progressively from SoF:2, we ventured into MoHAA, being inspired by the Saving Private Ryan's movie.
who can resist the temptation of reliving the tense scenarios in WW2 battlefield?

then came Call of Duty.
but, this game still unable to surpass the greatness of MoHAA.

received a call from Petronas HR Department. i am to go to KLCC to get the offer letter. the best part was that i totally forgot to ask them of where i'll be assigned to should i accept the offer. *sigh*

on the latest news, i just came back from attending UOB's annual Dinner and Dance nite. Mandarin Oriental is the venue. at last, i have fulfilled my "impian" to makan2 there. nasib baik the food is quite good. at least i was not bitterly disappointed.
by the end of the dinner, Fauzi, Manager of Commercial Lending (if i'm not mistaken) came to our table and gave us some advice:
  • if you want to be the same and ordinary, be the same
  • if you want to be different, then be different
  • show yourself to the management
anyway, this is my 2nd night in a row of mixing with bunches of people drinking liquor.
i guess i just can't get myself to be used to this kind of environment. so sorry syeena, i guess the next time we're going to Laundry, i have to excuse myself. the show was marvellous. but the smokes and liquor? i can't stand those things.

i have the opportunity to learn more about banking operations, as right now i'm being attached to UOB Shah Alam branch. learnt lots of things that goes behind the counters.
but now, since Petronas is already calling me, i guess its time to say goodbye to the banking world. but not now la. i guess i'm going to send my resignation letter early next month. (abiskan bulan ni dulu..nak dapat gaji huhu)

my love and thanks to fellow BMT-ians: Aizud, Haziq, Hanif, Diyana, Ida, Suza, Zana, Sarah, Ada, Nad, Nureen, Lita, Shaz, Zura, and Ana. you guys rocks! together we bravely and boldly went through the uncertainties. and the future lies in our own hands.
hehe..sentimental sikit, although i kno the precentage of them reading this is very-very-very d very low one :P

btw, anyone interested in having their own credit card? drop me a line. UOB credit cards maaa...free for life.

Banking 101

today is officially my first day of working. wait, working is not an appropriate word to use here. training is much better. yeah, training is the most suitable word for it.
instead of directly being assigned to designated cubicle, registering user ID and stuffs like that, the position i'm holding right now really speaks for itself. Management Trainee. therefore, the first two weeks we will be trained first before being properly assigned to designated workplace and responsibilities.
we will be undergone 2 months of learning experiences, thru hands-on jobs, training and workshop sessions, and also field assignments. i must say that i am very much impressed on how UOB tailored their Management Trainee programme. i mean, i know that training is to be expected, especially since i only possess small knowledge on the banking business; but they really trained their trainee in order to ensure that we are really prepared for the challenges.
Fast-track Banking 101 lesson is a must.

Bumiputera Managment Trainee is being established because UOB is now pursuing to aggresively penetrating the big potential market of Bumiputera targeted market. more on commercial area.

and i thought that Oil & Gas, and IT is the only industry that are literally full of acronyms and abbreviation. well, Banking industry is the same too.

right now, my head is full of "Anti Money Laundering Act"
huhuhu

live long and prosper!!

Convocation Speech

its kinda late, two weeks to be exact, but better be late than never.

big thanks to ICT/BIS lecturers and tutors ;especially Mr Anang, Ms Noreen, Mrs Nazleeni, Mr Fadzil, Mr Abas, Mr Faizal, Mr Saipunidzam, Mr Jale and others; for all your guidance, knowledge, and patience in dealing patiently with me in academic and non-academic areas. Lecturers from General Studies department, especially Pn Khalida (Econs 1), Ustaz Pisol (Pendidikan Islam), Mrs Anna (PCS), Mrs Noni (Organisational Behaviour), Mr Amzairi (Intro to Finance), Mr Lai (Corp Finance & Multinational Corp Finance), and others. (sorry, can't remember all the names :( ) Not forgetting Mr Noohul for teaching us with great patient and understanding for subject Digital Electronics 1.

big hugs for Residential College administration, for fully co-operation and trust throughout my involvement in activities held in UTP. million thanks to En Talhah, En Zul, and all RC staffs.
billion thanks to UTPRCSU for giving me the opportunities to acquire, develop, and spread the skills in many channels. it is thru active involvement in this society i've become who i am.

to my ICT course-mates; ladies and gentlemen; we fought the war together, we went throught the hardships and obstacles together, and most importantly we did our tasks and assignments together. (hint: kongsi jawapan and projek). we managed to survive the years of being "experimented" with ridiculous new subjects and syllabus. who can forget the final exam question for Data Structure? we have to memorize the whole "stack" coding just to get 20 marks.

to BIS peeps: we fought the early years side-by-side. as years go on, we went thru our own pre-destined path (or syllabus set by UTP). you might spent your years with reading subjects, but in the end, you lots learned ABAP. *sigh*. SAP tuh!

to engineering students: good luck with the remaining sem!

to current residents of V5A-L3-3, thanks for the ad-hoc accomodation. thank you Pitus, Hambal, Mok, Emil, Ban, Am, Ja'a, Alan, Apis Raub, Epul, Solute and Tod. and Aspa and Famie too.

to Ira and Fatin, thank you for the lovely yellow rose. bunga tu dah kering dah, tapi aku simpan, nak buat potpourri.
to dearie, thank you for the lovely roses. sorry for not giving you anything on your graduation day. :(

thank you Kelab AM, Sengal-ians, RCSU, MPPUTP, Rakan Masjid, Floyderz, Al-Deng2, Old-Skool, goodFellas, wengurl, and others laa..tak mampu nak ingat sumer nama geng2 lelaki dan perempuan.. aaa..time kasih sekali lagi kepada junior-junior sekalian (altho satu sem je kurang hehe)...

kerja saya

Alhamdulillah, it looks like my life is back on its track to greatness and excellence!
about two weeks ago, i received a phone call from Time Engineering, giving me good news regarding my application for the UEM Young Executive Scheme.
since it was the first offer i received, i said YES.

and then, there was my convocation. a glorious one.

back to KL for another round of interview at UOB, and finally last week, i received a call from them.
i'm being offered the position for management trainee.
and i said YES too. :)

then i received a call from Bank Negara HR Dept, asking me to come for a preliminary assessment session.
i had to decline the offer.

the same goes to Time Engineering. as much as i am very interested to joint the company, there are many things that need to be considered. after much consideration, i chose UOB to be my first stepping stone to this vicious world, called MARKETING.
hehe.

hurmm..PETRONAS, when will you call me? huhu

erti kemerdekaan

Bonfire of the brands

We are surrounded by myriad brands, flashing neon signs, billboards, labels on our heads, feet and bodies, and the objects we hold in our hands. But what happens when one man tries to live without them?
