the task : young professionals sharing experiences with the students

PROMUDA was invited to give talks and workshops for TEC 2005 career seminar. Thru UTP co-ordinator, Mr Anang Hudaya, the news went wild to the tekad-selangor-coaches. From a simple request ("needed several volunteers"), a group of coaches, lead by Ms Aizan, the request received good replies. "Several" turned out to be 15++ volunteers.

Two weeks before the event, Ms Aizan started to have "star-wars" visions of how the talks should be..Inspired by Mrs Adita's last year performance, she decided to raise the bar higher. Looking at the volunteers list, which interestingly has people coming from different educational and career background, she fusioned everything into one "crazy" idea. The supposed to be "Appearance and Desired Personality; Professionals In the Making" workshop, was revamped into " The Search for the Ultimate YoungProfessionals 2005 " show. Instead of young professionals just standing in front of the participants and start talking, they entered the room ala models styles. Complete with cat-walks and entrance songs. The students weret otally caught off guard. This is something they never expect from young professionals.

During BBQ session, it was very dis-heartening to see that my fellow students did not take the opportunities to meet up and mix around with these young professionals. It was the other way around. Some of us planned to go to the famous clock tower, when one of us said "why don't we go around and meet the students first?" The rest is history. Indeed the students had lots of things to ask.

The next day, it was the slot for "Applying Jobs, Facing an Interview" talk. Again, we twisted a bit on the presentation style. Mr Harman (BoB) gave a brief but informative talk on preparing resume. Then Mr Azam, MsAzura (oZa), Ms Inas, and Mr Yuz presented a short skit on the DOs and DON'Ts during interview. The participants learned lots of things from it. Especially the DON'Ts. Then, the young professionals and participants had a group discussion and experience-sharing session. Before lunch, the participants were treated with Mrs Adita's talk on "Women working in Male gender dominated area". It was interesting, as she prepared a montage, short video and short karaoke session. Once again, Mrs Adita out-do her previous performance. Then Ms Azura presented a talk about "Managing Your Boss". The talk enlightened both the participants and the young professionals. The fact that she sang at the end of her crowd, and the students even sang along with her, and that made the presentation interesting and memorable.
